Construction of the ACE Building is officially underway
The construction of our future hub for research and education has officially started at Campus Skellefteå. This seven-story building, set to be completed by spring 2027, represents a significant step in Skellefteå's efforts toward sustainable growth and electrification.
An event and a start of something important
We've kicked off the build of our future home. Representatives from Arctic Center of Energy (ACE), Skellefteå Municipality, PEAB, and LINK Arkitektur joined the event to talk about the new landmark and sustainable marvel that's being built. At the moment, foundation work and piling are underway. Around thirty piles are already in place, but there'll be a total of 289 piles before the foundation is complete. All of them are being drilled down approximately 25–30 meters to ensure stability.
Circular innovations for a greener tomorrow
The ACE Building will be one of the first in Sweden to be certified under the new, more comprehensive Miljöbyggnad 4.0 standard as well as NollCo2. The timber framework, in line with Skellefteå's timber-building strategy, and the use of reclaimed materials such as windows and staircases, make this project a model for circular and sustainable construction.
– This project pushes the boundaries of sustainable construction, showing what's possible when we focus on reuse and energy-efficient solutions, says Kenneth Lindén, Project Manager at Skellefteå Municipality.
A hub for electrification
The building will become a vibrant testbed and meeting place, where research and innovation will drive society's electrification forward. Currently, we are planning the various environments to create an inspiring atmosphere. We want to populate the building with life and activity.
– We aim to bring together a mix of stakeholders from industry, business, society, and research who can collectively contribute to development. By offering cutting-edge workspaces, research environments, and teaching spaces for students and professionals, we'll have a varied community of participants, says Sanna Orellano, Site and Business Development Lead at ACE.
Capturing reflections and visions in a time capsule
During the event a time capsule was introduced. It'll be filled with reflections on present-day Skellefteå and visions for the future. The capsule, which will be integrated into the building during the Society Expo 2026, is set to be opened 100 years from now.
– Sustainability is at the heart of Skellefteå's transformation. Our ambition is to lead the way in sustainable development, and this project reflects those values, says Evelina Fahlesson, Skellefteå's Municipal Commissioner.
Through collaborations with Skellefteå Municipality, PEAB, and LINK Arkitektur, the ACE Building will be a hub for electrification and stand as a symbol of Skellefteå's future.
