The first project will test autonomous band vehicles on snowmobile trails in northern Sweden, delivering food and supplies in peacetime and supporting military logistics in crises. The second adapts civilian drone systems for military use, while still enabling efficient deliveries of goods in remote areas.

– Dual-use technology allows us to build systems that serve society today and strengthen defense when needed, says Pia Kristiansson, project leader.

These are part of VTI's broader double-use innovation portfolio, including two other projects approved in October 2025:

– Small‑scale logistics along the Vindel River: developing autonomous band vehicles for rural transport, with capabilities for both civilian logistics (e.g., EU-pallet cargo, package delivery, even water transport on Holmön) and military deployment.

– Accelerated implementation of an energy-efficient and resilient dual-use transport system: building mobile droneports for take-off, landing, and charging of drones that serve both civilian and military logistics.
