eMobility
How do we electrify transport systems faster, smarter, and more sustainably? For us eMobility is more than vehicles on land and in the air. It's about infrastructure, energy supply, resilience, and a whole new way of thinking about movement.
Driving the shift to smart and sustainable transport
Our eMobility work brings together researchers, companies, municipalities, and public actors who want to accelerate the transition.
We explore:
- Vehicle-to-everything: How vehicles interact with the grid, buildings, and infrastructure to boost energy resilience.
- Vehicle-to-grid: Real-world solutions for flexible energy use, backup power, and cost efficiency.
- Autonomous mobility: Opportunities in self-driving vehicles and drone-based transport systems.
- Transport electrification: Overcoming barriers in charging infrastructure, integration with the power grid, and affordability.
- Resilient transport: Ensuring mobility systems can withstand and adapt to crises.
- Heavy-duty and industrial logistics: Electrification and automation in construction, industrial, and heavy transport operations – where uptime, power, and robustness matter most.
We provide the space for pilot projects, testing, and collaboration. And northern Sweden is our testbed.
In focus right now
We're currently testing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) solutions in real-world conditions with Skellefteå Kraft, Cupra, and LTU. This technology lets electric vehicles send power back to the grid – supporting the system during crises, balancing demand, and lowering costs for car owners. With new power tariffs coming in 2026, the potential is big – but still largely untapped.
One of our key eMobility initiatives is the project SAEKERT – Säker, Anpassningsbar, Ekonomisk och Klimatneutral Energiförsörjning för Resilienta Transportsystem. It aims to help municipalities and regions build resilient, electrified vehicle fleets. We're developing knowledge and methods to support climate goals, keep transport systems cost-effective and accessible, and boost their ability to handle disruptions. Read more here.
