Project: SAEKERT

We're developing knowledge-based preparedness for decision-makers, ensuring resilient and sustainable electrification of municipal and regional vehicle fleets in times of crisis.

Project updates

  • April 22, 2025 – follow-up workshop.

  • April 9, 2025 – workshop on future scenarios.

  • January 30–31, 2025 – project kick-off in Skellefteå.

About the project

The project name stands for Säker, Anpassningsbar, Ekonomisk och Klimatneutral Energiförsörjning för Resilienta Transportsystem. It encapsulates the ambition of the project: to create a transport system that is safe, adaptable, economic, and climate neutral, while also enhancing societal resilience.

Goals

In this project, we study the development of resilient vehicle fleets within municipalities and regions. The aim is to develop knowledge and methods for how the transport system can achieve set climate goals while maintaining good accessibility and economy while making it more resilient.

The project also aims to raise overall awareness in society about e-mobility and resilience, highlighting the importance of sustainable and reliable transport solutions for the future.

– SAEKERT represents an important step toward ensuring that Sweden's vehicle fleet transition is both climate-friendly and resilient, says Tobias Vahlne.

Work packages

An in-depth study will be conducted with stakeholders in Västerbotten and Skellefteå who've defined challenges for resilient and sustainable transport in cold climates.

We've different work packages within the project team:

  • WP 1: Technology and infrastructure

  • WP 2: Simulation and optimization

  • WP 3: Policy and regulation

  • WP 4: Information and education

We analyze critical infrastructure, gather relevant technical data, and develop scenarios for different types of vehicle fleets and energy systems. We also compare solutions based on emissions, accessibility, resilience, and cost-effectiveness. Based on our findings, we design educational packages, share best practices, and propose policy recommendations.
